Retail parking lots are a harder environment than most people credit. They combine the things that destroy surface markings — concentrated turning movements, delivery vehicles, salt, plows — with the one thing a municipal road does not have: an owner whose customers judge the property on how it looks.

What is actually there
TrafficPatternsXD: aggregate-reinforced preformed thermoplastic, 150 mil, heat-fused into the asphalt.
The pattern reads as laid masonry — the look of pavers, stones and cobbles — which is doing real work in a retail setting. It marks the pedestrian route with something a driver registers as different ground, not just a painted line, and it does it in a material that survives the traffic a parking lot actually generates.
The aggregate is rated 8–9 on the Mohs scale and runs through the full cross-section, so the surface has not gone slick where the wheel paths cross it. Skid resistance is specified at 60 BPN under ASTM E303.
The number that matters to an owner
Fourteen years of constant use, and the crossings have provided a safe and durable path for pedestrians the whole time.
Set that against the alternative most commercial properties default to. Painted crosswalk markings in a busy retail lot are typically a repaint cycle measured in a season or two — which means recurring cost, recurring disruption, and a property that spends part of every year looking neglected.
Fourteen years is not a warranty and it is not a lab figure. It is one installation, still in service, that anyone can go and stand on.
