Decorative Paving & Labyrinth for BC's Children’s Hospital

Horizontal Surface Markings

BC Women & Children’s Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility, providing care for BC Women, Children and families. HUB Surface Systems was proud to supply products that contributed to the overall architectural hardscape design for this impressive medical institution. The decorative paving and labyrinth application adds playful and mandative aspects to the space.

Both StreetBond Coatings for Asphalt and Concrete and DecoMark Custom Horizontal Surface Markings were used to complement the architectural hardscape for active outside spaces present off wards on a number of floors as well as on the ground level plaza.

StreetBond was applied to new acid-etched concrete and the DecoMark icons were applied to both concrete as well as precast concrete tiles. An unusual aspect of the project was that the DecoMark icons were installed to the precast tiles off-site. The tiles were then delivered to the project, lifted to the floors and carefully placed. This allowed for efficient installation and high-quality control.

HUB worked closely with Oren Mizrahi, Associate, BCSLA, CSLA, LEED AP of Connect Landscape Architecture over the course of the design phase through installation. This is what Oren had to say:

“Hub Surface Systems worked closely with us throughout the project providing sound technical direction along the way and the net result was a successful implementation and translation of our design ideas to the ground plane.”

The DecoMark icons represent various female animals native to BC and they’re young. A great architectural hardscape installed at the hospital was a labyrinth on the deck of one of the levels created using StreetBond coatings.
