Educational facilities

Introduction

For educational institutes, creating an environment that is welcoming and engaging to students is important. When the University of British Columbia was deciding how to enhance the arrival experience of students on campus, they decided that one important feature would be a decorated crosswalk that also celebrates Musqueam society.

Given the intricacy of the design and how high traffic the area was along with the local environment requirements, TrafficPatterns was decided as the best option to provide the durability along with the intricate detail necessary.

The problem

The University of British Columbia in collaboration with Musqueam staff, elders and community members were doing various enhancements to its campus and wanted to reintroduce Musqueam culture. Along with the art and cultural displays in campus, they were looking for a distinctive feature to welcome students that would also acknowledge how the University is located on ancestral Musqueam land.
Stakeholders: Campus and Community Planning at the University of British Columbia, Musqueam staff, elders, and community members.
