Recently the city of Osoyoos in British Columbia’s Okanagan valley pave park and pathway hardscape including the application of StreetBond Solar Reflective coatings
Asphalt is the perfect pavement for park plazas, pathways and separated bike lanes. It provides a smooth vibration free accessible surface, is durable and easy to repair. Except it’s a black surface.
There are two principal issues here. Firstly black pavement often clashes with the natural surroundings, sticking out like a sore thumb. Secondly it absorbs heat in the summer sun, uncomfortably so. It can actually be dangerous, to the point of burning bare feet and puppy paws!
StreetBondSR Solar Reflective Coatings are designed for application to asphalt and concrete. They are available in a wide range of colours which blend the pavement in more naturally with their surroundings and result in a cooler, safer surface that’s slip resistant.
StreetBondSR is also durable, when properly applied it won’t peel, delaminate, colour fade and is wear resistant resulting in many years of maintenance free performance.
StreetBondSR™ LEED® Compliant Coatings – have solar reflective characteristics that reduce Urban Heat Island Effect by minimizing the amount of solar energy absorbed by asphalt pavement surfaces such as parking lots, park paths/plazas and playgrounds. Reducing Heat Island Effect helps minimize the impact on microclimate through the use of asphalt hardscape surfacing material with high solar reflectance, and can contribute to project LEED® credits.
Pavement surfaces are a leading cause of Urban Heat Island Effect contributing roughly 30-40% of the urban footprint. Reducing Heat Island Effect lowers energy consumption and can cut air conditioning bills up to 33%. Not to mention, cooler pavements mean safer more comfortable pavements as well.
