UBC & Musqueam Crosswalk

University Branding

Helping the University of British Columbia and Musqueam to build a feature UBC Musqueam Crosswalk using our patented TrafficPatterns at the intersection of University Boulevard and Wesbrook Mall, and was installed by SquareOne.

The design was created collaboratively between UBC & Musqueam to enhance the arrival experience to campus. The decorative crosswalk uses the UBC & Musqueam crests woven together, acknowledging that UBC is situated on the ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam peoples.

Upgrades to pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure along Wesbrook Mall between Student Union Boulevard and the University Boulevard intersection commenced in January 2019. The crosswalks will be complete this Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

Narrowing the road width to create more room for sidewalks, landscaping and bike lanes

A new pedestrian crossing at the Bus Exchange

New intersections at Student Union Boulevard and University Boulevard with shorter pedestrian crossing distances and waiting times

An architectural hardscape ‘feature crosswalk’, street furniture and landscaping will be added at the University Boulevard intersection in order to create a sense of arrival at the main gateway to campus

Generous, universally accessible sidewalks, and features such as lighting, street trees, planting and seating at the University Boulevard intersection

Extended median area for pedestrians crossing University Boulevard or for taking photographs of the UBC monument

High Skid/Slip Resistant:

Skid resistance is maximized by adding anti-skid elements to the surface and the intermix of the material at the time of manufacturing. As the marking wears, new anti-skid elements are exposed.

Impressive Durability:

TrafficPatterns® is engineered as heavy-duty intersection grade pavement material and can last 6 to 8 times longer than MMA or epoxy-coated surfaces. This material eliminates the maintenance and safety concerns of loose pavers and is snow plow friendly.

Fast Installation:

TrafficPatterns® comes pre manufactured and is simply placed on the existing pavement surface and using specialized heaters, quickly binding it to either asphalt or concrete surface. Very little mess and minimal traffic or community disruption.

Low Maintenance:

TrafficPatterns® has the same surface characteristics as the pavement. Therefore, there is no additional vibration level or rigid bumpy effect as with pavers and imprints. Although virtually maintenance free, it’s easy and quick to repair with minimal traffic disruption. remove damage, apply sealer, replace with new material, and heat.

Customizable:

Ideal for commercial brand extension and community branding. Highly customizable in a wide range of available colours, TrafficPatterns® can be designed with your community or commercial brand image in mind.
