Turning Asphalt Playgrounds into Creative, Colourful Outdoor Learning Environments
StreetBond coatings were used to help transform the surfaces of asphalt school playgrounds into creative outdoor learning environments for children of the Dufferin-Peel Region Catholic School Board in Ontario.
These schoolyard playground enhancements were done affordably by utilizing over 70% of the existing older asphalt surface and repurposing it by using StreetBond – Advanced Coatings for Asphalt to colourize the existing asphalt surfaces in creative ways. Some of the older existing asphalt pavement surface was cut out and removed and imaginative play elements placed in those areas.
StreetBond coatings are formulated to bond with both existing and new asphalt and concrete surfaces. StreetBond does not peel or delaminate when installed to specification. The pigments used are UV stable and the incorporation of silica aggregate makes these play surfaces safely skid and slip resistant.
The Dufferin-Peel Region Catholic School Board worked with Seferian Design Group to convert about 30 of their outdoor playground areas into the beautiful enhanced outdoor learning environments they are today.

Early Learning Outdoor Renovations
Other examples of the use of decorative asphalt treatments for school playgrounds and hardscapes can be found in many Canadian cities including Victoria, BC. As part of Victoria’s school seismic upgrade program, StreetPrint – Genuine Stamped Asphalt was used to create new and attractive school plazas and school building entrances. All Victoria school installations were installed by Certified Applicator Square One Paving. Here is some of the the school landscape renovation work done in Victoria, BC.
